Is there life after death?

YES. The Bible describes a time of judgment, as well as a time of reward, after death. All of us will stand before God and give an account to Him. Hebrews 9:27 says “And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment.” The Bible refers to two eternal destinies: eternal life and eternal punishment. John 3:18 says “He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.”

Can I know where I’ll spend eternity?

YES. The Bible was written to help us know that we can have eternal life. 1 John 5:13 says “These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.” It is God’s desire that every person would spend eternity with Him. 2 Peter 3:9 says that the Lord “is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

Can I earn my way to heaven by doing good?

NO. Eternal life cannot be gained by doing good works. It is a free gift and is received by faith alone. Ephesians 2:8-9 says “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” A gift is something voluntarily given to another without expectation of something in return. Eternal life is a gift of God provided through His Son, Jesus Christ.

What was the purpose of Jesus’ death?

The purpose of Jesus’ death on the cross was to pay for your sins. 1 Corinthians 15:3 says “…Christ died for our sins, according to the Scriptures.” Jesus never sinned, yet he took the punishment that we all deserve for our sins. Jesus’ death on the cross was the full payment for your sin. Not only did Jesus Christ die on the cross for you, but He was buried and rose again three days later. By doing so, He conquered sin and death.

What must I do to be saved from my sin?

BELIEVE. A man in the New Testament asked the same question. Acts 16:30-31 says “…Sirs, what must I do to be saved? And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved…” Believing is not simply acknowledging that Jesus existed. Believing is trusting in Jesus Christ alone for eternal life. You must believe that He died for you, paid the price for your sin, arose from the dead and is the only way to Heaven.

You can express your faith and trust in Jesus through prayer. You could pray something like this: “Dear Jesus, I know that I am a sinner and that I deserve Hell. I believe that you died on the cross, paid the penalty for my sin, and arose from the dead three days later. I am placing my faith and trust in you alone to forgive my sin and give me the free gift of eternal life. In Jesus name, Amen.”
